daymetr decommissioning

twilighting the daymetr package

Today we received the news from Dr. Michele Thornton at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) that the DAYMET API they host will be decommissioned. This change will be effective within weeks and affect first and foremost the spatial (gridded) data products, before most likely covering the whole THREDDS data server setup including point based data.

In short, it is unlikely that the DAYMET API at ORNL will be maintained for much longer (past the end of the year). We suggest that users of our {daymetr} R package migrate to the NASA EarthData Appeears based API as covered by our {appeears} R package. This API provides access to both point based and gridded DAYMET products, in addition to remote sensing based data products. We are sorry for the inconvenience this might cause in your workflows. For any questions regarding migrating to the {appeears} R package I refer to our consulting and office hours policy.
